What's in a name?

Alex, Connie, Kim, Morgan, Shannon and Pat (remember that Saturday Night Live character?) There are others, but these are a few names in my recent interactions that can be unisex. Most of the time when you read each of those names, 1 particular gender comes to mind. However, I have known people of both sexes with each of those names.

So this week after more than 11 months of IM or e-mailing to my co-worker there is an issue that requires a phone conversation. I dial the ext. a man with a deep voice answers the phone. I pause & look at the phone to make sure I dialed the right ext. & Connie laughs and says, "Yes, this is Connie; you thought I was a female didn't you?" Well, yeah. LOL!

Has this ever happened to you? Anyone?

Now that would be strange! Its amazing how much a name can influence how we think of someone.

True, that could be a whole post in itself. :-)

Too funny. I have a co-worker in another location whose first name is Jae. I don't know how to pronounce it and I'm not sure of their gender.

Ha! yes those garner the plural pronouns from me. They or them for names that give no clue.
