Reality TV

I dreamed that I was watching Jacques Cousteau on TV with my dad. So when I woke up I was thinking about how different "Reality TV was in the 70's to how it is today quite a difference. One of the other shows we used to watch was Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom. My mother wasn't too crazy about the bloodiness of that show. So we'd call her in the room & tell her the lions were finished eating, but of course they weren't.

What's worse lions running down their dinner or a drunk Snooki falling all over the place getting arrested? Hmm, I guess that's a matter of opinion. One is nature and one is a hot mess. IMO LOL!

Meet Me on Monday

Welcome to Meet Me on Monday sponsored by Java

Blogging is a funny thing...we tell our most intimate thoughts for all to read and yet most of the time I find myself sitting and wondering, "who is this person!?" I know them...but yet I don't know them! I want to know who the person is behind all those words so Java thought of a great way for all of us to "meet" each other! Every Sunday she posts five get-to-know-you questions that you can copy and paste into your own Monday post and we can all learn a little more about each and every one of us!!

Questions:

1. Did you watch the Superbowl?
2. What is the last book that you read?
3. What is your favorite kind of cake?
4. Do you snore?
5. Do you play an instrument?

Answers:

1. Did you watch the Superbowl?
Yes, I was also on Twitter & Facebook, and it seems I missed some of the best commercials. It was almost like being at a Superbowl party, because reading people's comments about the game/commercials/half-time was very entertaining.
2. What is the last book that you read?
I am reading "Write it Down, Make it Happen" I should be finished with it shortly.
3. What is your favorite kind of cake?
Hmm something chocolatey, but since I love icing a cake isn't complete for me without icing.
4. Do you snore?
Not regularly, but I guess when I am very sleepy I snore.
5. Do you play an instrument?
No I never learned how to play any instruments. But I was in band in high school as a member of the dance/drill team.

Welcome Home!

This morning my dog woke me up at about 3:30am. I rolled over when I realized what time it was, just yelled at him to lay down. But he kept whining & was at the side of the bed with his paws on the edge of the bed so he could look in my face. I thought about it & realized that since he was whining & persistent I should get up & take him out.

I am glad I did, because he did have to go. He takes care of business and back in the house we go. So I can get that last hour of sleep before work. He was still whining a little, but he laid down and I dozed off until the alarm went off.

Out we went again his normal time, but really it's only been an hour. He takes care of business again.

Now I am into my normal morning frenzy, and he was acting a little unusual. As I am getting my lunch together I look at him and see that he still looks sick because he starts as if he is about to throw up. I run to the door leash in hand, "D-O-G come on!" Too late! (he used to run to the door in our other house.) OK so now I go to the kitchen to get paper towels. When I come back to the spot...I see that my conscientious dog has cleaned up his mess. Umm, yeah he licked the carpet. Note to self will shampoo the carpet this week.

I have to get to work. Oh if only someone made doggy saltines. I get all my stuff together and leave the doggy and the house for work.

Hours later I'm Back home! Oh boy my doggy is happy and he's better. The spot on the carpet appears to be the same size...I don't see any more spots. Cool! And then I turn around. Woe is me. Doggy diarrhea on the carpet. My last thought on the way to work, "I should put him in the bathroom & close the door."

But I must have really wanted to shampoo my carpet today. Oh, what a wonderful way to end a long work day. I pretty much hit the spots with the shampoo-er. I'll have to do the whole thing this on my off days.

So the lesson of the story. Stop! Do what your mind tells you to do.

At least I own a carpet shampoo cleaner. No vet bill that I can't afford. It was a nice almost 70 degree day. And I'm sure I provided entertainment for anyone that could see me on the back porch washing the back half of the D-O-G. It's a wonderful day in the neighborhood!

Just Regular Remnants

You know I have started to post something so many times this 1st month of 2011, but I didn't. I have done the Monday meet up posts, that I missed yesterday. But every time I started to post something other than that...I thought what I had to say was rather boring, so I didn't post. And you know what today it's the same thing. I don't have any profound revelations, but just a few observations & just what's on my mind. Hey, when I do have a revelation or an a-ha moment, I'll post that too.

I really have no idea where I'll be this time next year. Well I know that I will have to move because of changes being made at my job. I just don't know WHEN it will happen. I love Atlanta, but I think I am ready to leave. I moved here 18 years ago from Tex. It's going to be a few months before I know dates. I guess the hard part is sorting through the rumors & waiting for the real info.

This article about a Georgia state agency reminds me that I wouldn't have to deal with them ever again. I'm glad to know they didn't just randomly make a mistake with JUST my account. Fortunately I haven't done my taxes for 2010 yet, so they didn't deposit money in my account to yank it back without warning.

So there will be some changes in my life at some point this year...I just don't know when.

What had happened was...

2011 Randoms

I didn't know that snow could make the night look so bright. I must have tried to turn off my patio light about 3 times the night it snowed. Shoveling snow ice is hard work, first I had to break the ice then I could move the chunks. My whole body ached this morning & it looked like I hadn't done any shoveling.

Those trees that make it a little cooler in the summer with the shade keeps the snow in my driveway while all my neighbor's snow melts. At least today my son & his roommate came & finished breaking up the ice. We laughed that his roommate was able to practice, because he is moving back to Buffalo next month. He started remembering right away.

I am definitely tired of alll the Atlanta weather people. They were on all night & all day. No "Early Show"; no "Today Show" & no "Good Morning America", just Atlanta weather. Ha! Ha! And then I blogged about weather. Oh well I had weather overload, I had to get rid of it.

I even missed the Meet Me on Monday this week, and I didn't work my normal 10 hours. Well, next week I should be back on track.

Speaking of normal, I had my eyes dilated today. They are finally working like they should. I felt like I had tunnel vision.

5. Do you have a Facebook?

My Answers

1. What will your Christmas dinner consist of?
Definitely Mac & Cheese, Sweet potato pie, Collard greens & possibly cornish hens but I haven't decided on the meat yet. I will talk to my son tonight.

2. Do you watch commercials or flip through the channels?

Sometimes I do, because some of them are funny, but I usually have my laptop up so I start surfing the net. I watch a lot of tv shows on Hulu & the commercials are too short to leave the room or do something else.

3. How long will you leave your Christmas decorations up?

I haven't put any up this year. No kids & my son doesn't live with me so no real help to take the decorations down.

4. What movie makes you cry every time you watch it?

Hmm, "Imitation of Life" comes to mind immediately. I haven't seen it in ages but also "Steel Magnolias"

5. Do you have a Facebook?

Yes, I have connected with quite a few high school friends that I lost touch with.

A Little Weekend Randomness

I saw 2 deer run across a little road that I take. But it's a rather populated area just a small patch of trees. Poor deer, glad I didn't hit them.

I met a wonderful lady & 3 of her 4 sons this week. Good home training from sons to grandsons. Unfortunately I met them, because the son that has been my neighbor passed away Sunday. I've only lived in this cul de sac about 18 months and I felt some kind of way when the moving van pulled out last night. I can't imagine how they felt.

Sheesh! Just a week until Christmas & the year is almost over. 2010 went by soo fast.

I'm looking forward to my new book that I won over a that Gal Lee's place She is a great writer, smart & funny.

Recipe "Okra Remnants"

Since this is longer than 140 characters...And I like the name.

I had been thinking about stewed okra & tomatoes for about a week or more. And lo & behold someone gave me some fresh okra. (I'd never cooked fresh okra myself)

I'd say it was about 2 to 3 large handfuls of okra. I cut them up & got rid of the tips & stems. I then boiled the okra in some water with a little sea salt.

I cut up about half of a medium onion & sauted (yea not spelled right) it in a little olive oil until the onions were cooked.

I had 3 whole tomatoes that I cut up & added to the onions in the skillet. I then realized that this was not going to be enough tomatoes, so I added a 14 oz can of whole peeled tomatoes. (I usually just stick the knife in the can to cut up the tomatoes)

I drained the boiled okra & threw everything in my crock pot for about 2 hours while I ran errands. When I came back I tossed in a little less than half a box of whole grain penne pasta. I think the pasta was done in about 30 minutes.

I (who always wants meat in my meal) really enjoyed this...I did add a little jalepeno pepper to spice it up.

Sorry about the non-measurements...but this was a bit of an experiment for me & it turned out to be successful & tasty.

What's in a name?

Alex, Connie, Kim, Morgan, Shannon and Pat (remember that Saturday Night Live character?) There are others, but these are a few names in my recent interactions that can be unisex. Most of the time when you read each of those names, 1 particular gender comes to mind. However, I have known people of both sexes with each of those names.

So this week after more than 11 months of IM or e-mailing to my co-worker there is an issue that requires a phone conversation. I dial the ext. a man with a deep voice answers the phone. I pause & look at the phone to make sure I dialed the right ext. & Connie laughs and says, "Yes, this is Connie; you thought I was a female didn't you?" Well, yeah. LOL!

Has this ever happened to you? Anyone?

Thanksgiving Randoms

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! Enjoy your family, friends & the feasts. The 3 F's of the holiday this is a time when the F is a good thing. LOL!

I'm not cooking an entire meal this year, but I am making a dish to take to my friend's house. This year I am in charge or the macaroni & cheese. I'll wait until tomorrow morning to make it.

So tonight I am eating leftovers. Do you ever have an odd mix of food left? And in an attempt NOT to throw out good food just eat them together. Well this evening I had & still have a large container of potato soup. (I made it from scratch, pretty yummy..until I eat 4 more meals of it.) My meal was potato soup, greens, cranberry sauce, yeah I know my friend doesn't like that so I opened a can. Oh & I added some Rotel tomatoes to the soup, just because I had some of that left over & decided to spice it up. Whoo hoo that made it very spicey.

Oh, I am a little tired of the people whining about the TSA scans/pat downs. And there is someone that is passing out flyers to people at the ATL airport so that passengers will refuse the full body scan. To demand a pat down instead & cause a back up in the security lines. Really? So that they can miss their flight? Dude you have too much time on your hands.

Well, have a great holiday!

High Five!

I think the squirrels are sitting somewhere playing Truth or Dare. What else could it be when they run out in the street, but decide to cross back as you get close? They are devious little suckers...My question is what do they do when one of doesn't make it across the street?

I know that they are taunting my dog...frolicking through yards running up the tall pine trees. I just have to remember to wear my sneakers when I take him for a walk...so I can plant my feet firmly as he runs to the end of the leash.

Squirrels, it's about to be winter, I hope they hibernate. Because I need a break from those devious little critters. LOL!

Happy Veterans Day & Thanks for your Service

This is my military picture. LOL! Well, it was my locker at basic training.

My son and I went to lunch today and took advantage of the free meal for veterans. I pulled out all sorts of papers looking for an old ID card for my proof of service. Soo nobody asked for it. What?! Not even when I went to get my free donut. Now I have to put everything away. I'll put it in the right place. I only hope I remember where that right place is next time I need it.

Weekend Randomness

It's winter in GA today! LOL! No it didn't snow here, I think it snowed in the mountains. At least the sun is out, so I think the temp is above 40 now.

For the last few days I've wanted some red beans & rice. I thought I would quench that desire by going to a certain fast food chicken place. Wrong! Mainly because the serving size was just enough to make me mad. I want what I want when I want it. And that's not something that you can rush and there are somethings that I cook that I know my son will eat when he comes by. Beans are not one of those dishes, so I thought I was saving. Ha! No, the cost of a small side is what a 16 oz bag of beans costs.

So now I am being tortured by the aroma wafting (is that a word?) from the kitchen. I bought the dried beans & soaked them last night...Hours of preparation. Somethings can't be rushed.

I may have to move soon/not so soon. Not sure of the time frame right now. Well that is if I stay at my present place of employment. The uncertainty right now is the killer. I'm not totally opposed to leaving Atlanta, but some of the things I take for granted here...well it just won't be the same in the new city.

I'm soo hungry, let me see what I can snack on while I wait for the real food.

Weekend at Remmy's

I guess last week I had a staycation with my friend from Cali. I really like this picture, and no it's not me or my friend that visited. This is one of the residents at the Aquarium. We had a great time. There were exhibits that had me oohing & ahhing like a 5 year old. I think it has been about 3 years since I had been there. I know a few people that think going to the aquarium is something you do with kids. But we didn't have any to take kids except our inner child. Fortunately for we had free tickets, but I think there are discounts when you go late in the day. It's best to check the website, because there are days that it closes earlier than normal, but it's open 365 days a year.

I did realize last week that cigarettes are not only expensive, but time consuming. I guess I was a bad hostess, because I didn't let her smoke in the house or the car. But she understood, she said she doesn't smoke in her own home. But waiting for her to finish or start a "quick" smoke, really wasted ALOT of time.

Overall in just 4 days we squeezed in rest, shopping, tourist stuff & catching up with another former co-worker. Hopefully, I'll get to visit southern Cal in the next few months.

Meet Me on Monday

Thanks to Chele I have a blog today. I think I'll do this on Mondays, because it seems fun.

Questions:

1. Do you sleep with a night light on?
When I’m at home, no I don’t. But if I stay at a hotel or somewhere that I’m not familiar, then I turn on a light in a closet or the bathroom and leave the door slightly opened.

2. What do you drink with dinner?
Usually I drink some sugary drink typically juice or sweet tea. (I know it’s bad for me.)

3. Do you play the lottery? If so, how often?
Ohh, considering my financial situation, probably more than I should about $4 or $5 a week.

4. How often do you go to the grocery store?
As little as possible, at least once every 2 weeks, but I go to the farmer’s market about once a week.

5. Would you rather travel back in time 500 years or travel forward 500 years?

Take me to the future, please!
