Meet Me on Monday
Welcome to Meet Me on Monday sponsored by Java
Blogging is a funny thing...we tell our most intimate thoughts for all to read and yet most of the time I find myself sitting and wondering, "who is this person!?" I know them...but yet I don't know them! I want to know who the person is behind all those words so Java thought of a great way for all of us to "meet" each other! Every Sunday she posts five get-to-know-you questions that you can copy and paste into your own Monday post and we can all learn a little more about each and every one of us!!
Questions:
1. What will your Christmas dinner consist of?
2. Do you watch commercials or flip through the channels?
3. How long will you leave your Christmas decorations up?
4. What movie makes you cry every time you watch it?
5. Do you have a Facebook?
My Answers
1. What will your Christmas dinner consist of?
Definitely Mac & Cheese, Sweet potato pie, Collard greens & possibly cornish hens but I haven't decided on the meat yet. I will talk to my son tonight.
2. Do you watch commercials or flip through the channels?
Sometimes I do, because some of them are funny, but I usually have my laptop up so I start surfing the net. I watch a lot of tv shows on Hulu & the commercials are too short to leave the room or do something else.
3. How long will you leave your Christmas decorations up?
I haven't put any up this year. No kids & my son doesn't live with me so no real help to take the decorations down.
4. What movie makes you cry every time you watch it?
Hmm, "Imitation of Life" comes to mind immediately. I haven't seen it in ages but also "Steel Magnolias"
5. Do you have a Facebook?
Yes, I have connected with quite a few high school friends that I lost touch with.

A Little Weekend Randomness
I met a wonderful lady & 3 of her 4 sons this week. Good home training from sons to grandsons. Unfortunately I met them, because the son that has been my neighbor passed away Sunday. I've only lived in this cul de sac about 18 months and I felt some kind of way when the moving van pulled out last night. I can't imagine how they felt.
Sheesh! Just a week until Christmas & the year is almost over. 2010 went by soo fast.
I'm looking forward to my new book that I won over a that Gal Lee's place She is a great writer, smart & funny.

Questions:
1. How do you order your steak? Medium well
2. Are you superstitious about anything? I can't think of anything off the top of my head, but I'm sure the moment I post this I'll remember.
3. Who is your best friend (not including your spouse)? My cousin
4. When is the last time you wore a dress (for the guys...a suit)? Friday night at the my company party.
5. Do you have any trips scheduled?Unfortunately nothing soon. I was 1 chair away from winning an Atlantic City hotel stay on Friday. I am soo bummed, LOL but I'll live. And I don't like travelling when everything is full. (I'll tell that story 1 day.)

Recipe "Okra Remnants"
I had been thinking about stewed okra & tomatoes for about a week or more. And lo & behold someone gave me some fresh okra. (I'd never cooked fresh okra myself)
I'd say it was about 2 to 3 large handfuls of okra. I cut them up & got rid of the tips & stems. I then boiled the okra in some water with a little sea salt.
I cut up about half of a medium onion & sauted (yea not spelled right) it in a little olive oil until the onions were cooked.
I had 3 whole tomatoes that I cut up & added to the onions in the skillet. I then realized that this was not going to be enough tomatoes, so I added a 14 oz can of whole peeled tomatoes. (I usually just stick the knife in the can to cut up the tomatoes)
I drained the boiled okra & threw everything in my crock pot for about 2 hours while I ran errands. When I came back I tossed in a little less than half a box of whole grain penne pasta. I think the pasta was done in about 30 minutes.
I (who always wants meat in my meal) really enjoyed this...I did add a little jalepeno pepper to spice it up.
Sorry about the non-measurements...but this was a bit of an experiment for me & it turned out to be successful & tasty.

What's in a name?
So this week after more than 11 months of IM or e-mailing to my co-worker there is an issue that requires a phone conversation. I dial the ext. a man with a deep voice answers the phone. I pause & look at the phone to make sure I dialed the right ext. & Connie laughs and says, "Yes, this is Connie; you thought I was a female didn't you?" Well, yeah. LOL!
Has this ever happened to you? Anyone?

Thanksgiving Randoms
I'm not cooking an entire meal this year, but I am making a dish to take to my friend's house. This year I am in charge or the macaroni & cheese. I'll wait until tomorrow morning to make it.
So tonight I am eating leftovers. Do you ever have an odd mix of food left? And in an attempt NOT to throw out good food just eat them together. Well this evening I had & still have a large container of potato soup. (I made it from scratch, pretty yummy..until I eat 4 more meals of it.) My meal was potato soup, greens, cranberry sauce, yeah I know my friend doesn't like that so I opened a can. Oh & I added some Rotel tomatoes to the soup, just because I had some of that left over & decided to spice it up. Whoo hoo that made it very spicey.
Oh, I am a little tired of the people whining about the TSA scans/pat downs. And there is someone that is passing out flyers to people at the ATL airport so that passengers will refuse the full body scan. To demand a pat down instead & cause a back up in the security lines. Really? So that they can miss their flight? Dude you have too much time on your hands.
Well, have a great holiday!

High Five!
I think the squirrels are sitting somewhere playing Truth or Dare. What else could it be when they run out in the street, but decide to cross back as you get close? They are devious little suckers...My question is what do they do when one of doesn't make it across the street?
I know that they are taunting my dog...frolicking through yards running up the tall pine trees. I just have to remember to wear my sneakers when I take him for a walk...so I can plant my feet firmly as he runs to the end of the leash.
Squirrels, it's about to be winter, I hope they hibernate. Because I need a break from those devious little critters. LOL!

Happy Veterans Day & Thanks for your Service
This is my military picture. LOL! Well, it was my locker at basic training.
My son and I went to lunch today and took advantage of the free meal for veterans. I pulled out all sorts of papers looking for an old ID card for my proof of service. Soo nobody asked for it. What?! Not even when I went to get my free donut. Now I have to put everything away. I'll put it in the right place. I only hope I remember where that right place is next time I need it.

Weekend Randomness
It's winter in GA today! LOL! No it didn't snow here, I think it snowed in the mountains. At least the sun is out, so I think the temp is above 40 now.
For the last few days I've wanted some red beans & rice. I thought I would quench that desire by going to a certain fast food chicken place. Wrong! Mainly because the serving size was just enough to make me mad. I want what I want when I want it. And that's not something that you can rush and there are somethings that I cook that I know my son will eat when he comes by. Beans are not one of those dishes, so I thought I was saving. Ha! No, the cost of a small side is what a 16 oz bag of beans costs.
So now I am being tortured by the aroma wafting (is that a word?) from the kitchen. I bought the dried beans & soaked them last night...Hours of preparation. Somethings can't be rushed.
I may have to move soon/not so soon. Not sure of the time frame right now. Well that is if I stay at my present place of employment. The uncertainty right now is the killer. I'm not totally opposed to leaving Atlanta, but some of the things I take for granted here...well it just won't be the same in the new city.
I'm soo hungry, let me see what I can snack on while I wait for the real food.

Weekend at Remmy's
I guess last week I had a staycation with my friend from Cali. I really like this picture, and no it's not me or my friend that visited. This is one of the residents at the Aquarium. We had a great time. There were exhibits that had me oohing & ahhing like a 5 year old. I think it has been about 3 years since I had been there. I know a few people that think going to the aquarium is something you do with kids. But we didn't have any to take kids except our inner child. Fortunately for we had free tickets, but I think there are discounts when you go late in the day. It's best to check the website, because there are days that it closes earlier than normal, but it's open 365 days a year.
I did realize last week that cigarettes are not only expensive, but time consuming. I guess I was a bad hostess, because I didn't let her smoke in the house or the car. But she understood, she said she doesn't smoke in her own home. But waiting for her to finish or start a "quick" smoke, really wasted ALOT of time.
Overall in just 4 days we squeezed in rest, shopping, tourist stuff & catching up with another former co-worker. Hopefully, I'll get to visit southern Cal in the next few months.

Meet Me on Monday
Questions:
1. Do you sleep with a night light on?
When I’m at home, no I don’t. But if I stay at a hotel or somewhere that I’m not familiar, then I turn on a light in a closet or the bathroom and leave the door slightly opened.
2. What do you drink with dinner?
Usually I drink some sugary drink typically juice or sweet tea. (I know it’s bad for me.)
3. Do you play the lottery? If so, how often?
Ohh, considering my financial situation, probably more than I should about $4 or $5 a week.
4. How often do you go to the grocery store?
As little as possible, at least once every 2 weeks, but I go to the farmer’s market about once a week.
5. Would you rather travel back in time 500 years or travel forward 500 years?
Take me to the future, please!
